Scrap car removal in Cambridge, done properly

Cambridge cars work hard. Daily runs on the 401, stop-and-go traffic on Hespeler Road and winters of salt on the hills around Galt all take their toll. When a car finally reaches the point where repairs make no sense, scrapping it gets you paid and gets it gone. The key is a buyer who pays fairly and recycles responsibly. Here's what you get with us.

  • A price based on real numbers

We price your car on its weight, its reusable parts and current metal rates, not a guess. You'll know the exact amount before you book, and it won't change if the car is as described.

  • No charge to haul it

The tow is free anywhere in Cambridge, Blair and North Dumfries, even if the car has no wheels or sits at the bottom of a steep driveway.

  • Paid before it moves

You're paid in cash on the spot once the paperwork is signed, before the car is hooked up and pulled onto the truck.

  • Paperwork explained

We'll tell you what documents you need, what to do with your plates and how to handle a missing ownership, all before pickup day, so there are no surprises.

  • Responsible recycling

Your car goes to a licensed Ontario recycler, where fluids are captured and parts are reused. It doesn't end up dumped in a back field or a ravine.

  • Flexible pickup times

We book pickups Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., so you can schedule around a shift at the plant, a day at the office or a weekend at the cottage.

How to scrap your car in Cambridge

Three simple steps, usually finished the same day or the next.

  1. Step 1: Get a scrap quote

Call (289) 349-2006 or fill in the form. Tell us the year, make and model, the condition it's in and whether anything is missing. In about 3 minutes you'll have a firm offer based on today's metal prices.

  2. Step 2: Prep the car

Empty the car of personal items, remove the licence plates and set the ownership aside with your photo ID. If the car is in a garage or behind a gate, make sure the driver will be able to get to it.

  3. Step 3: Tow and payment

The driver arrives, checks the car, and you sign. You're paid in cash on the spot, then the car is loaded and taken to a licensed recycler. Call your insurer afterwards to cancel the policy.

Scrap prices in Cambridge: what sets your offer

Most scrap cars in Cambridge fetch $300 to $2,000. We pay a minimum of $300 for sedans, coupes and hatchbacks, $500 for SUVs and minivans, and $500 for pickups. Weight is the biggest single factor, followed by the parts that can be reused.

What sets the price

The car's weight
Heavier vehicles contain more steel, so a pickup or van is usually worth more than a compact.
Scrap metal rates
Steel and aluminum prices shift with the market, and our offers follow them.
Converter and parts
The catalytic converter, engine, transmission, alternator and alloy rims all add to the price.
Make and model
Parts from popular models are easy to resell, which keeps their value up.
Missing pieces
A car without its engine or wheels weighs less and has fewer parts to sell.
Payout ticket Top Cash 4 Cars
Sedan, coupe or hatchback
from $300
SUV or minivan
from $500
Pickup truck
from $500
Running used car
up to $10,000

Prices depend on current scrap metal rates, which change month to month.

How to get the most for your car

  • Don't strip the car before we quote it; we price the car as a whole.
  • Tell us about anything new, like recent tires or a fresh battery.
  • If the car still runs, say so. It may be worth more than scrap.

Scrapping a car in Cambridge: documents and plates

The paperwork for scrapping a car is short. Here's what matters.

Ownership and ID

Have the ownership (vehicle permit) and government photo ID ready, and make sure the names match. If the car belonged to a family member who has passed away, call first, since estate sales need a few extra documents.

No ownership?

If the ownership is lost, ServiceOntario can issue a replacement. Call us before you go; we can tell you what's needed for your car and whether we can still help. Our guide to selling without ownership explains more.

Licence plates

Plates stay with you, not the car. Take them off before the tow, then keep them for your next vehicle or return them to ServiceOntario. There's no refund for returned plates. See what to do with your plates.

Liens and safeties

Any outstanding lien must be paid off or disclosed, so call us to talk it through before booking. A safety certificate isn't needed to scrap a car or to sell it to us, whatever shape it's in.

Where your scrap car goes after Cambridge

Once your car leaves, it's taken to a licensed Ontario recycler. The first job is safety: every fluid is drained and stored, the battery comes out and the A/C refrigerant is recovered. The catalytic converter is removed so its precious metals can be reclaimed.

Next, the parts with some life left, such as engines, alternators, doors, mirrors and wheels, are pulled for resale. What remains goes through a shredder, which breaks it into small pieces that are sorted into steel, aluminum and other materials. Around 75–80% of a typical vehicle by weight can be recycled.

It's a cleaner end than leaving a car to rust beside a Hespeler garage or in a North Dumfries field, where leaks can soak into the ground. Learn more about our auto recycling service.

Scrap car removal questions from Cambridge

Still have a question? Call (289) 349-2006 and ask a real person.

Is scrap car removal in Cambridge really free?

Yes. The tow is free anywhere in Cambridge and the surrounding townships, and nothing is deducted from your price for distance, fuel or paperwork. You're paid the full quoted amount in cash before the car is loaded.

Do you pay more for scrap trucks and SUVs?

Usually, yes. Trucks, SUVs and minivans weigh more, so they carry more steel. We pay at least $500 for SUVs and minivans and $500 for pickups, compared with $300 for sedans. Prices depend on current scrap metal rates.

Can you scrap a car with no wheels or engine?

Yes. Stripped and incomplete cars still have metal value. The offer will be lower than for a complete car, but we'll still pay cash and tow it free. Tell us exactly what's missing so the quote is accurate.

Does the car need to be reachable by road?

We need to get a truck reasonably close. Driveways, garages, parking lots and most farm lanes are fine. If the car is in a backyard, behind a building or across a field, tell us so we can plan the pull.

How long does a scrap pickup take?

Most take 15–30 minutes from the time the truck arrives. The driver checks the car, you sign and get paid, and the car is loaded. A hillside driveway in Galt or a tight Hespeler lane can add a few minutes.

Should I drain the fuel or remove the battery first?

No. Leave the car as it is. The recycler drains fluids safely, and the battery is part of what we pay for. Just take out your personal belongings and your licence plates before the driver arrives.

Will my car be crushed right away?

Not right away. First the recycler drains the fluids and removes the parts that can be reused. Only then is the shell crushed and shredded. Either way, it won't be patched up and sold back onto the road as scrap.

What should I do with the plates on a scrap car?

Take them off before the tow. In Ontario, licence plates belong to you, not the car, so you can put them on your next vehicle or return them to ServiceOntario. Then call your insurer to cancel the policy once the car is gone.

Can you scrap a car from a Cambridge business or rental property?

Yes, as long as the seller is the registered owner or has the authority to sell. Businesses need a signing officer, and landlords can't sell a tenant's abandoned car without the owner's paperwork. Call us and we'll explain what's needed.
