Why trucks, vans and SUVs are worth more

A bigger vehicle carries more steel, and steel is the first thing a scrap buyer pays for. Full-size pickups, vans and SUVs are often several hundred kilograms heavier than a typical sedan, so even a dead one usually beats a small car in the same shape.

Weight is only half the story. Truck and SUV parts stay in demand long after the body rusts out. Engines, transmissions, transfer cases, axles, wheels and tailgates all have buyers, especially for popular models like the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, Ram 1500, Dodge Grand Caravan and Honda CR-V.

That's why we price every truck on its own instead of using a flat scrap rate. Tell us the year, make, model, cab and box size, and what's wrong with it. You'll get a firm cash offer in about 3 minutes, and the price we quote is the price you're paid.

Trucks, vans and SUVs we buy

If it's a light-duty truck or a family hauler, we'll make an offer. Here's what we see most often.

  • Pickup trucks

Half-tons, three-quarter-tons and one-tons, from compact Tacomas and Rangers to crew-cab Silverados and Rams. Rusted boxes, bent frames and worn-out 4x4 systems don't stop a sale.

  • Cargo and passenger vans

Ford Transit and E-Series, Chevrolet Express, GMC Savana, Ram ProMaster and Mercedes Sprinter vans. Shelving, ladder racks and high roofs can stay on. Running vans and dead ones both qualify.

  • Minivans

Grand Caravans, Odysseys, Siennas and Pacificas that have hauled one too many hockey bags. Sliding-door trouble, transmission problems and high kilometres are common, and we buy them as they are.

  • SUVs and crossovers

From compact crossovers like the RAV4, Escape and CR-V to full-size Tahoes, Suburbans and Expeditions. We pay cash for SUVs of any age, and bigger ones usually earn a bigger offer.

  • High-kilometre work trucks

Contractor pickups and service trucks with very high kilometres still have steel and parts value. We buy them with worn engines, tired suspensions and years of job-site wear.

  • Diesel trucks

Power Stroke, Duramax and Cummins trucks keep parts value even when the engine is in trouble. Injector, turbo and emissions-system problems are all fine, and we price the whole truck, not just the metal.

How much cash for trucks, vans and SUVs?

Most scrap and junk trucks, vans and SUVs sell for $300 to $2,000, and heavier pickups and full-size vans often land toward the top of that range. Running trucks in decent shape are valued as used vehicles and can be worth up to $10,000. For a deeper look at how scrap prices are set, read what your scrap car is worth.

What sets the price

Weight and size
A crew-cab pickup or full-size van carries far more steel than a compact car, which raises its scrap value.
Engine and transmission
A good engine or transmission adds value even when the rest of the truck is worn out.
4x4 and diesel
Four-wheel-drive parts and diesel engines are in steady demand, so they can lift an offer.
Frame and body rust
Road salt eats frames, rocker panels and boxes, and heavy rot lowers the price without wiping it out.
Running or not
A truck that runs and drives is priced as a used vehicle rather than scrap, which can make a big difference.
Completeness
Missing wheels, a pulled engine or a stripped interior reduce the offer, but we still buy the truck.

How to get the most for your car

  • Leave the catalytic converter and battery in place, since removing them lowers your offer.
  • Mention the cab style, box length and drivetrain so the quote is right the first time.
  • Tell us about upgrades that stay with the truck, like newer tires or a rebuilt transmission.
  • Have your ownership (vehicle permit) and photo ID ready on pickup day.

Truck and SUV problems that don't stop a sale

Work trucks and family SUVs both take a beating. We make offers in all of these situations, and plenty of others. If a truck simply won't start, see how we buy vehicles that don't run.

  • Rusted frame or box Salted Ontario winters rot frames, rockers and bed floors, and we buy trucks that can't pass a safety because of it.
  • Blown engine Spun bearings, knocking, a cracked head or a seized motor still leave the rest of the truck worth buying.
  • Transmission failure Slipping, no reverse or stuck in one gear is common on high-kilometre pickups and vans.
  • 4x4 or transfer case trouble Grinding, stuck in four-wheel drive or no front drive at all is fine with us.
  • Diesel problems Injector, turbo, DPF and EGR repairs are expensive, so selling often makes more sense.
  • Failed safety inspection You don't need a safety certificate to sell to us, even if your truck just failed one.
  • Accident damage Front-end hits, rollovers and insurance write-offs are all welcome.
  • Flood damage Trucks and SUVs that sat in water still have steel and parts value.
  • No keys We can tow a truck without keys as long as you have the ownership.
  • Plow and towing wear Pickups worn out from plowing snow or pulling trailers are welcome.
  • Running trucks Running pickups, vans and SUVs are valued as used vehicles, with offers up to $10,000.

How to sell your truck, van or SUV in 3 steps

Most truck sales take one call and well under an hour on pickup day.

  1. Step 1: Tell us about the truck

Call (289) 349-2006 or use the form. Give us the year, make, model, cab style, kilometres and what's wrong with it. Mention 4x4, diesel or anything heavy in the box. You'll get a firm cash offer in about 3 minutes, with no obligation to accept.

  2. Step 2: Pick a pickup time

Choose a time that works around your day. Same-day pickup is usually available if you call before noon. Let us know about flat tires, missing keys or a tight spot, so we send a tow truck that can handle the weight and the space.

  3. Step 3: Get paid on the spot

Our driver checks the truck against your description, you sign the ownership over, and you're paid cash on the spot. Remove your licence plates first. The whole visit usually takes 20–30 minutes, and the tow is always free.

Before you hand over the keys

A few truck-specific things to sort out before pickup day.

Remove the caps, toolboxes and gear you want to keep

Truck caps, tonneau covers, toolboxes, ladder racks, hitches and plow mounts can be worth money on their own. Take off anything you plan to sell or reuse before we arrive. If you'd rather leave them on, tell us when you call, so they're counted in the offer instead of guessed at on the driveway.

Take your plates, transponder and tools

In Ontario, licence plates belong to you, not the truck. Remove them before the tow, then keep them for your next vehicle or return them to ServiceOntario. Also grab your 407 ETR transponder, garage remote, GPS tracker and any tools behind the seat. Our guide on what to do with your plates covers the details.

Check for a loan or lease

Plenty of pickups are financed or leased. A leased truck belongs to the leasing company, and a loan usually shows up as a lien. Either way, it has to be paid off or disclosed before you sell. Call us first and we'll talk through what's needed in your case.

Don't fill the tank or fix it first

There's no need to top up fuel, replace a battery or patch the rust before you sell. Those costs rarely come back in the offer. Just give us an honest description, including warning lights and leaks, so the price we quote holds when the driver arrives.

Heavy trucks and tight spots

A one-ton with a dump box or a loaded cargo van is heavier than it looks. Tell us what's in the bed or the back, and whether the truck sits on grass, gravel or a steep driveway. Emptying the cargo area speeds things up and helps the driver load safely.

Selling your truck to us vs your other options

Trucks hold their value, so plenty of owners try a private sale first.

What truck, van and SUV sellers say

  • “Excellent service! Philip did a really good job of keeping his promised time to do the pick-up of my 2008 Honda Accord and paid whatever was agreed upon. Highly recommended scrap car removal service in Mississauga. Fast pickup and cash on the spot. No hassles and very pleasant experience.”
Merben Figura Mississauga via Customer review
  • “I called after work around 7 p.m. I had a car I needed to get rid of and 30 minutes after I made the first call, he showed up and gave me a very fair deal on the car. Car was gone, money in my wallet and I was very happy. He was extremely pleasant, polite, fair and explained things to me the right way.”

Cash for trucks FAQs

Still have a question? Call (289) 349-2006 and ask a real person.

How much cash can I get for my truck?

Most scrap and junk trucks fetch $300 to $2,000, and scrap pickups start at $500. Heavier crew cabs, full-size vans and 4x4s often get more because of their weight and parts. Running trucks in good shape can be worth up to $10,000. Call with the year, make, model and condition for a firm number.

Do you pay more for an SUV or minivan than a car?

Usually, yes. SUVs and minivans weigh more than most sedans, so they carry more steel, and our scrap minimum for them is $500 instead of $300. The final offer still depends on the model, its condition and current scrap metal rates.

I want to sell my truck, but it still runs. Will you only pay scrap price?

No. A truck that runs and drives is priced as a used vehicle, not scrap. We look at the year, kilometres, condition and demand for that model. Running pickups, vans and SUVs can be worth up to $10,000, and the offer reflects what the truck is worth on the road.

Do you buy diesel trucks with engine problems?

Yes. We buy diesel pickups and vans with injector, turbo, head gasket and emissions-system problems, and ones that won't start at all. Diesel engines and parts stay in demand, so a broken diesel truck often still earns a strong offer. Tell us the engine and the symptoms when you call.

Will you buy a truck with a rotted frame?

Yes. Ontario road salt is hard on frames, and a rusted one doesn't stop us from buying your truck. Heavy rot lowers the offer somewhat because some parts can't be reused, but the steel weight and drivetrain still count. You don't need a safety certificate to sell to us.

Can I sell my van with shelving and racks still inside?

Yes. Shelving, partitions and ladder racks can stay where they are. Take them out only if you plan to reuse them in another vehicle. Tell us what's installed when you ask for a quote, so the offer reflects it and nothing changes on pickup day.

Is scrap truck removal free if the truck can't move?

Yes. Scrap truck removal is free even if the truck has flat tires, seized brakes, no keys or no engine, and the tow is never taken off your offer. Tell us how it's sitting and roughly what's in the box, and we'll send the right equipment. Here's how our free car removal works.

Should I take the cap, toolbox or plow off before you come?

Take off anything you want to keep or sell separately. Caps, toolboxes, racks and plow gear can be worth more sold on their own. If you leave them on, mention them when you get your quote, so they're part of the price instead of a surprise on pickup day.

Do you pick up trucks across the GTA?

Yes. From our Burlington base we pick up across the GTA and Golden Horseshoe, from Hamilton and Niagara to Brampton, Toronto and Oshawa. Same-day pickup is usually available if you call before noon, and we work Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m..
