Privacy policy

How Top Cash 4 Cars collects, uses and protects the personal information you share with us, in plain language.

About this privacy policy

Last updated: October 10, 2026

This privacy policy explains how Top Cash 4 Cars (“we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you visit topcash4cars.ca, call us, send a quote request or sell us a vehicle.

We follow the principles of Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). In plain terms: we only collect what we need, we tell you why, we use it for that purpose and we keep it safe. By using this website or contacting us, you agree to the practices described here.

Information we collect

When you fill in a quote form, call us or send us a text message, we may collect:

  • Your name, phone number and email address
  • Vehicle details, such as the year, make, model, mileage, condition, VIN and any photos you send
  • Where the vehicle is, such as your address, city or postal code
  • Ownership details, such as whether the vehicle is in your name and whether there's a loan or lien on it

When we buy a vehicle, we check your government photo ID and the vehicle's ownership (vehicle permit) to confirm you're entitled to sell it, and we keep a signed bill of sale.

Like most websites, ours also collects some technical information automatically when you visit. This can include your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, how you arrived at the site and your approximate location. See “Cookies and analytics” below for details.

How we use your information

We use personal information to:

  • Prepare your quote and contact you about it by phone, text message or email
  • Book and complete the pickup of your vehicle
  • Confirm identity and ownership, and help prevent fraud and the sale of stolen vehicles
  • Keep the business, tax and vehicle purchase records the law requires
  • Answer your questions and requests
  • Understand how people use our website, so we can improve it and measure our advertising

We don't sell your personal information, and we won't use it for purposes unrelated to the ones above without asking you first.

By sending a quote request or calling us, you consent to us using your information to prepare your quote and contact you about it. We'll only send you promotional messages if you've agreed to receive them, and each one will tell you how to opt out, as Canada's anti-spam legislation (CASL) requires.

You can withdraw your consent at any time by calling (289) 349-2006. If you do, we may not be able to complete a quote or purchase, and we may still need to keep certain records that the law requires.

Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. We use Google Tag Manager to manage the tools on our site, including Google Analytics. Google Analytics uses cookies to tell us things like how many people visit, which pages they view and how they found us. We see this information in combined reports, and we don't use it to identify you personally. We may also use conversion tags to see whether our online ads lead to quote requests.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and Google offers a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics. Most of our site works without cookies, though some features may not work as intended.

Service providers and storage outside Canada

We use outside service providers to run our business, such as website hosting, online form tools, analytics, phone and text messaging services and email. They may handle your information on our behalf, only to provide their service to us, and we expect them to protect it.

Some of these providers, including Google, may store or process information outside Canada, for example in the United States. While it's there, it's subject to the laws of that country and may be accessed by its courts, law enforcement or national security authorities.

When we share information

We share personal information only when we need to:

  • With service providers, as described above
  • With the licensed recycler or buyer that receives a vehicle, limited to the vehicle and ownership details needed to complete the transfer
  • When the law requires it, such as for a court order, a request from police or a government agency, or to report a suspected stolen vehicle
  • If our business is sold or merged, in which case the new owner must protect your information in line with this policy

We don't share your information with other businesses for their own marketing.

How long we keep it and how we protect it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as long as the law requires. Records of vehicles we buy, including bills of sale, are kept for the periods required for business, tax and legal purposes. Quote requests that don't lead to a sale are deleted or anonymized once we no longer need them.

We use reasonable safeguards to protect personal information from loss, theft and unauthorized access. These include encrypted connections (HTTPS) on our website, limiting access to the people who need it and choosing service providers with appropriate security. No website or system is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep your information safe.

Seeing and correcting your information

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask how it's been used or shared, and ask us to correct anything that's wrong. Call (289) 349-2006 during our hours (Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and we'll explain how to make a request. We may need to confirm your identity first.

We'll respond within 30 days, as PIPEDA requires, and we'll tell you if there's a legal reason we can't share something.

Children, other websites and complaints

Our website and services are meant for adults who own a vehicle or are authorized to sell one. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

Our site may link to other websites, such as Google Maps or ServiceOntario. We aren't responsible for how those sites handle your information, so check their privacy policies.

If you have a question or concern about how we handle your personal information, call us at (289) 349-2006 and we'll do our best to resolve it. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time, for example when we add new tools to our website or the law changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated, and changes take effect when they're posted here. For the rules that apply to using our website and to our quotes, see our terms of use.
