When a Newmarket car reaches the end of the road
Some cars go out with a bang: a seized engine on Highway 404, a cracked block after a cold snap. Most just fade. The rust spreads a little further each winter, the repair list grows, and one day the mechanic hands you an estimate that's more than the car is worth.
In Newmarket, plenty of those cars end up parked, whether in a detached garage behind a house near Main Street, beside a townhouse, or at the back of a property in East Gwillimbury. Every month a dead car sits, it costs you space and money, and it isn't getting more valuable. Rust keeps working, tires rot and mice move in.
Scrapping it now turns the car into cash and frees up the space. If you're not sure whether it's scrap or still sellable, call us. A running car may be worth more through our sell my car service in Newmarket.
Scrap car value at a glance
Here's where most scrap payouts start, and what can push yours higher. Prices depend on current scrap metal rates, so your exact offer is confirmed when you call.
| Vehicle | Minimum we pay | What can raise the price |
|---|---|---|
| Sedan, coupe or hatchback | $300 | Working engine or transmission, alloy wheels, catalytic converter in place |
| SUV or minivan | $500 | Extra weight, good tires, resellable parts |
| Pickup truck | $500 | Heavy frame and box, working drivetrain |
| Running used car | Up to $10,000 | Low kilometres, clean history, popular model |
Scrap car removal in Newmarket, from call to cash
Here's the whole process, start to finish.
-
Step 1: Get a firm scrap price
Call (289) 349-2006 or use the online form. Tell us the year, make, model and what's wrong, including anything missing. We'll give you a firm number in about 3 minutes. Accept it, sleep on it or compare it; there's no obligation.
-
Step 2: Pick your pickup time
Morning calls can often be booked the same day, and later ones usually go first thing the next day. We run Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.. Let us know about snow, a detached garage or a long rural lane.
-
Step 3: Meet the driver
Have your ownership (vehicle permit) and photo ID ready, and take your plates off. The driver confirms the car, fills in the bill of sale with you and loads it, usually in 20–30 minutes.
-
Step 4: Get paid on the spot
You're handed cash before the truck pulls away. The car goes to a licensed Ontario recycler, and your driveway or garage is clear again.
Getting ready for scrap pickup
A little prep makes pickup day smooth, especially in winter.
Find the paperwork
Dig out the ownership and your photo ID. If the ownership is lost, call us before heading to ServiceOntario; there may be an easier route. Still making payments? Any lien has to be paid off or disclosed before we can buy the car, so mention it when you call. Our paperwork checklist helps.
Remove plates and personal items
Take off the licence plates. In Ontario they stay with the owner, so you can reuse them on your next car or turn them in at ServiceOntario. Then empty the glovebox, trunk and door pockets, and grab any parking passes or garage remotes.
Leave the valuable parts on
The battery, catalytic converter and wheels are already counted in your offer. Removing them lowers the price by more than they're usually worth on their own, so leave the car as it is.
Clear the way, snow included
In winter, clear snow from around the car and from the bottom of the driveway, and move any vehicles blocking it. For a detached garage on a narrow lot, check that the path to the street is clear. Our pickup prep guide has more tips.
Inside a licensed recycler: where your car ends up
Your old car's last stop is a licensed Ontario recycling facility. Before any crushing happens, workers drain the gas, oil, coolant, brake fluid and refrigerant and store them for proper disposal or reuse. The battery and catalytic converter come out next, along with the tires.
Then comes salvage. Engines, transmissions, alternators, lights and body panels that still have life in them are pulled and sold, often to mechanics and people fixing their own cars. Around 75–80% of a typical vehicle by weight can be recycled. What's left is crushed, shredded and separated into steel, aluminum and other materials that go back into manufacturing. Newmarket scrap car FAQs
Still have a question? Call (289) 349-2006 and ask a real person.
What's the least you'll pay for a scrap car in Newmarket?
Our minimums are $300 for complete sedans, coupes and hatchbacks, and $500 for SUVs and minivans. Pickups start at $500. Many cars earn more depending on weight and working parts, and every offer follows current scrap metal rates.
Is it worth scrapping a car instead of fixing it?
Usually, if the repair costs more than the car would be worth afterward. Rust damage is a common example, since it tends to keep coming back. Call us for a scrap price, compare it with your repair estimate, and decide from there.
Do you scrap cars in Holland Landing and Sharon?
Yes. Scrap pickups in Holland Landing, Sharon, Queensville and the rest of the area just north of Newmarket are free, the same as in town. Let us know if the car is on a long lane or out in a field.
Can you scrap a car that's been in a garage for years?
Yes. Cars that have sat for years with flat tires, a dead battery or seized brakes are no problem. The driver can winch the car out of the garage. Tell us how much clearance there is around it.
What if the scrap car has no ownership?
Call us before you give up. A replacement ownership is available from ServiceOntario, and we may be able to help with the steps. Our guide on selling a car without ownership explains the options.
Should I drain the gas or fluids before pickup?
No. Leave all the fluids in the car. The licensed recycler drains everything safely with the right equipment. Draining fluids yourself can create a spill and a disposal problem you don't need.
Will the tow truck fit down my narrow driveway near Main Street?
Usually. If the truck can't get close, the driver can winch the car out to the street from a fair distance. Tell us the driveway width and whether there's a garage at the back, and we'll plan the best approach.
Can I get a scrap quote without the VIN?
Yes. The year, make, model and condition are enough for a firm quote in most cases. Having the VIN handy helps us confirm the exact engine and trim, which can make the number more accurate.
Do good tires add to my scrap price?
Sometimes, a little. Tires with plenty of tread on alloy rims can be resold, so they may lift the offer. Worn tires on steel rims mostly count as part of the car's weight. Leave them on either way, since taking them off lowers the price.
