Repair it or scrap it? Doing the math in Mississauga

When the repair estimate is bigger than what the car is worth, scrapping usually makes more sense. In a commuter city, that moment tends to come sooner. Years of stop-and-go on Hurontario and Dundas, plus long runs on the 401 and the 403, wear out transmissions, suspensions and brakes. Road salt finishes the job underneath.

Ask yourself three questions:

  • Would the repair cost more than the car is worth once it's fixed?
  • Is there frame or floor rust that will fail the next safety check?
  • Has it been parked for months with no real plan to fix it?

If you answered yes to any of them, scrapping is probably the better deal. You get paid now, you stop paying insurance and parking on a car you don't drive, and the vehicle is recycled properly.

Scrap car removal in Mississauga, start to finish

Three steps, usually wrapped up within a day.

  1. Step 1: Describe the car

Phone (289) 349-2006 or use the form. Tell us the year, make, model, where it's parked and what's missing or broken. We price it on weight, parts and current metal rates, and you'll have a number in about 3 minutes.

  2. Step 2: Book the tow

Choose a time. Before the truck arrives, remove your plates and personal items and set out your ownership (vehicle permit) and ID. There's no need to drain fluids or inflate tires; scrap cars go as they are.

  3. Step 3: Get paid and let it go

The driver confirms the car, you sign the bill of sale, and you're paid in cash. Then the car heads to a licensed Ontario recycler. You're free of it in well under an hour.

Scrap car prices in Mississauga

A typical scrap car in Mississauga is worth $300 to $2,000. Our floor is $300 for sedans, coupes and hatchbacks, $500 for SUVs and minivans, and $500 for pickups. Where yours lands depends on the factors below; our scrap value guide goes deeper.

What sets the price

Tonnes of steel
The heavier the vehicle, the more metal there is to sell, so trucks and vans start higher.
Converter and precious metals
An original catalytic converter adds real value, and a missing one takes it away.
Resaleable parts
Good engines, transmissions, doors and lights can be sold again, which raises the price.
Aluminum content
Alloy wheels and aluminum components are worth more per kilogram than steel.
The monthly market
Scrap metal prices move with global supply and demand, and so do our offers.
Condition of the shell
A complete car is worth more than one stripped of its parts, but both get paid.
Payout ticket Top Cash 4 Cars
Sedan, coupe or hatchback
from $300
SUV or minivan
from $500
Pickup truck
from $500
Running used car
up to $10,000

Prices depend on current scrap metal rates, so offers can change from month to month.

How to get the most for your car

  • Call before selling parts separately; it usually lowers your total.
  • Keep all the wheels on, even if the tires are flat.
  • Tell us about any recent repairs or new parts.

What happens to a scrapped car, stage by stage

Here's the journey your car takes after it leaves Mississauga.

Arrival at the recycler

We deliver the car to a licensed Ontario end-of-life vehicle processor. It's logged in and checked before anything is taken apart. Nothing is dumped, burned or left to rot in a back field.

Draining and depollution

Every fluid comes out first: engine oil, coolant, brake and transmission fluid, washer fluid, fuel and A/C refrigerant. The battery and any mercury switches are removed too. This keeps harmful liquids out of the soil and groundwater.

Parts recovery

Usable parts such as engines, alternators, mirrors and body panels are pulled, tested and sold to repair shops and drivers fixing their own cars. The catalytic converter goes to a specialist who recovers its precious metals.

Shredding and sorting

The stripped shell is flattened and fed into a shredder. Magnets and sorting lines separate steel, aluminum and other materials, which are sold back to mills. Around 75–80% of a typical vehicle by weight can be recycled this way.

Paperwork and plates when you scrap a car in Mississauga

Ownership

Sign the ownership over at pickup and show photo ID with the same name. If the car is in a relative's name, they'll need to sign or you'll need the right documents. Lost it? Call us before visiting ServiceOntario; selling without ownership explains what's possible.

Plates

Unscrew your licence plates before we arrive. Ontario plates belong to the owner, not the car, so keep them for your next vehicle or hand them in at ServiceOntario. Older plates can be seized with rust, so give it a try the day before. See what to do with your plates.

Insurance

Keep your insurance in place until the car is gone, then call your insurer with the sale date from your bill of sale. That avoids any gap in coverage if something happens to the car before the truck shows up.

Safety and emissions

You don't need a safety certificate to scrap a car. Ontario also ended Drive Clean emissions tests for passenger vehicles in 2019, so there's nothing to test or certify before selling your car for scrap.

Getting a scrap car out

Scrap cars rarely drive onto the truck, so our drivers come ready with a winch, dollies and a flatbed or wheel-lift unit. We reach south Mississauga off the QEW and central areas by Highway 403, while Derry Road and Highway 410 cover Malton and the airport district. Point us to a landmark like Heartland Town Centre or the Port Credit lighthouse if your street is hard to find.

Scrap car removal Mississauga: your questions answered

Still have a question? Call (289) 349-2006 and ask a real person.

What's the minimum you pay for a scrap car in Mississauga?

Sedans, coupes and hatchbacks get at least $300. SUVs and minivans start at $500, and pickups at $500. Heavier vehicles and cars with good parts often go higher, and most Mississauga scrap cars end up somewhere in $300 to $2,000.

Will you take a car that's been sitting for years?

Yes. Long-parked cars with flat tires, a dead battery, mouse nests or moss on the roof are fine. We'll winch it onto the truck if the wheels won't turn. Just have the ownership ready.

Can I scrap a car my insurance company wrote off?

Check first. If your insurer paid out the claim, the car may belong to them now. If you kept the car after a write-off, it's yours to scrap, and we'll pay for it based on weight and parts.

Do I need to drain the gas or fluids?

No. The recycler drains every fluid safely as part of the process. Leave the gas in the tank and don't try to empty the oil or coolant yourself, since a spill on your driveway is the last thing you need.

What happens to my car's catalytic converter?

It stays on the car and is part of your price. At the recycler it's removed and sent to a specialist who recovers the precious metals inside. If yours has been stolen, tell us; the car still has value.

How do I prove I sold the car for scrap?

Your signed bill of sale is your proof. It shows the date, the vehicle and our business details. Keep it with your records and use that date when you cancel your insurance.

Do you charge extra for heavy vehicles like vans or trucks?

No. There's never a charge for the tow, and heavier vehicles usually earn more because they carry more steel. Cargo vans and pickups from Malton and Meadowvale business parks are very welcome.

How long does the scrap pickup take?

Plan on 20 to 30 minutes from when the truck pulls up. The driver checks the car, you both sign the bill of sale, you're paid, and the car is loaded. Hard-to-reach cars can take a little longer.
