Signs your Dundas car is ready for scrap
In a town where every trip starts or ends with a hill, cars tend to wear out in predictable ways. Brakes, transmissions and exhaust systems take a beating on Sydenham Road and the Highway 8 climb, and the salt spread on those grades every winter attacks the underside. When the repair bills start to stack up, scrap is often the smartest move.
-
Repairs cost more than the car
If the shop's estimate is higher than the car's value, putting more money in rarely makes sense. Scrapping pays you instead of costing you. It also frees up the driveway.
-
Rust has reached the frame
Surface rust is one thing. Once rust gets into structural parts, the car won't pass a safety and a proper fix gets expensive fast. Salted Dundas hills make this a familiar story.
-
The transmission has given up
Slipping or failed transmissions are common on hill-driven cars. A rebuild can cost more than the whole car is worth on the road. Scrap pays you for it instead.
-
It hasn't moved in a year or more
Cars that sit lose value every season. Tires crack, brakes seize and rodents move in, so scrapping sooner usually pays more. Waiting another winter rarely helps the price.
-
It was in a serious accident
If your insurer wrote it off, or the damage isn't worth fixing, the metal and parts still have value. See our guide on selling a write-off.
-
It's costing you to keep
Insurance on a car you never drive, plus the garage or driveway space it fills, adds up over a year. Scrapping ends those costs and puts money back in your pocket.
How scrap car removal in Dundas works
Three steps, usually wrapped up within a day.
-
Step 1: Get your scrap price
Phone (289) 349-2006 or use our form. Tell us the year, make, model and what's missing or broken. We'll give you a firm scrap price in about 3 minutes, based on weight, parts and today's metal rates. There's no obligation to accept.
-
Step 2: Book a time that suits you
Choose a slot, including evenings and Saturdays. Same-day removal is often possible when you call before noon. Let us know if the car sits in a rear garage or on a slope so we bring the right equipment.
-
Step 3: Sign, collect your cash, done
The driver checks the car, you both sign the bill of sale and you're paid on the spot. The car is loaded and on its way to a licensed recycler in about 20–30 minutes, and you keep a copy of the paperwork.
Scrap prices for Dundas cars
Expect most scrap cars in Dundas to bring $300 to $2,000, with our minimum at $300 for cars and $500 for SUVs, vans and pickups. Weight drives the price more than anything else. Our scrap value guide shows how it adds up.
What sets the price
- Steel weight
- A heavier vehicle carries more recoverable metal and earns a higher offer.
- Metal market
- Scrap steel and aluminum prices shift through the year, so quotes follow the market.
- Catalytic converter
- It contains precious metals and adds real value when it's the original.
- Saleable parts
- Engines, gearboxes, alternators and wheels in decent shape raise the figure.
- Completeness
- Every missing part trims the offer, but even a bare shell has metal worth paying for.
- Model demand
- Popular makes have more buyers for used parts, which lifts the offer.
- Sedan, coupe or hatchback
- from $300
- SUV or minivan
- from $500
- Pickup truck
- from $500
- Running used car
- up to $10,000
Prices depend on current scrap metal rates and may be different next month.
How to get the most for your car
- Leave everything bolted on; parts pulled before pickup usually cost you money.
- Tell us about any new tires or a recent battery.
- Have the ownership ready to keep the visit short.
- Tell us about missing parts up front so the number holds when the driver arrives.
From your Dundas driveway to the steel mill
Here's what happens once your scrap car leaves Dundas. It goes to a licensed Ontario recycler, where trained staff work through it in stages.
First, every fluid is drained: engine oil, coolant, transmission and brake fluid, fuel and A/C refrigerant. Next, the battery and catalytic converter come out for their own recycling streams. Then usable parts such as doors, lights, mirrors and engines are salvaged for resale. Finally, the stripped body is crushed, shredded and sorted so the steel and aluminum can be melted down and used again.
Around 75–80% of a typical vehicle by weight can be recycled. That keeps oil and antifreeze out of Spencer Creek and Cootes Paradise. Read more in our guide to how car recycling works, or see our auto recycling service.
Preparing your car for scrap pickup
Ten minutes of prep makes the pickup quick.
Paperwork to find
Locate the ownership (vehicle permit) and your photo ID. If the permit is lost, call us before you go to ServiceOntario and we'll explain what's needed. Our guide on selling without ownership covers the common cases. Older permits are often tucked in the glovebox itself, so check there first.
Personal items
Check the glovebox, console, trunk, spare-tire well and door pockets. Remove garage openers, parking passes and toll transponders. Once the car leaves, getting things back is difficult, so take a few minutes to look properly. Check for a spare key hidden under the bumper, too.
Licence plates
Unscrew your plates before the driver arrives. In Ontario, plates belong to you and not to the vehicle. Keep them for your next car or return them to ServiceOntario; there's no refund either way. Details are in our plates guide.
Access to the car
Clear a path from the street to the car. In Dundas that might mean moving bins out of a lane or shovelling a hillside driveway. If the car is in a rear garage, make sure the door opens fully and nothing is stored in front of it.
No safety needed
Scrap cars don't need a safety certificate in Ontario, and you don't need to fix anything. Leave the car exactly as it is, warning lights, dents and all, and we'll take it from there. Scrap value is based on weight and parts, not on whether the car would pass an inspection.

Scrap car questions from Dundas sellers
Still have a question? Call (289) 349-2006 and ask a real person.
Is there a minimum price for scrap cars in Dundas?
Yes. We pay at least $300 for a scrap sedan, coupe or hatchback and at least $500 for a scrap SUV, minivan or pickup, as long as the car is complete. Prices depend on current scrap metal rates.
How do you work out the scrap price?
We start with the vehicle's weight, then factor in valuable parts like the converter and engine, plus current metal rates. That gives you a firm number before we arrive, not a guess made at your curb.
Can you scrap a car with a seized engine?
Yes. A seized engine is one of the most common reasons cars get scrapped. The car doesn't need to start or roll, because our driver winches it onto the truck.
Can I keep some parts before scrapping?
You can, but tell us first. Taking the tires, battery or stereo is fine if you let us know, though the offer will reflect it. Pulling the catalytic converter lowers the price the most.
What if the car is parked on the street?
That's fine. We can load from the street as long as the truck can pull up safely. On busy downtown Dundas streets, a quieter time of day may be easier, and we'll suggest one.
Does the recycler need anything from me?
No. Once you've signed the bill of sale and handed over the ownership, we handle everything else. Keep your copy of the bill of sale as proof of the date the car was sold.
Can you scrap more than one car at a time?
Yes. If you have two or more cars to clear, we'll quote each one and try to collect them on the same visit. Just mention all of them when you call so we send enough truck.
Do you pick up scrap cars in Greensville?
Yes. Greensville is part of our regular Dundas area and shares the L9H postal code. Highway 8 gets us up the hill quickly. Rural lots off the highway are fine too; just tell us where your lane starts.
