When it's time to scrap your car in Oshawa
Some cars simply reach the end. The frame has gone soft after years of salted winters, the repair estimate is higher than the car is worth, or it failed its safety and fixing it makes no sense. In Oshawa, a lot of those cars are older GM sedans and pickups that have already given their owners a long life.
Scrapping is the right call when the cost of repairs is more than the car would sell for running. At that point its value is in the metal and the parts, and we pay you for both. The tow is free for a downtown semi and a new build in Windfields alike.
What a scrap car is worth in Oshawa
A typical scrap car in Oshawa pays $300 to $2,000. The exact figure comes down to weight and salvageable parts, and we confirm it on the phone before anything is booked.
What sets the price
- Curb weight
- More steel means more money, and a full-size truck can weigh close to twice as much as a compact car.
- Catalytic converter
- Converters contain precious metals and are one of the most valuable single parts on a scrap car.
- Engine and transmission
- Even on a dead car, a rebuildable engine or a working transmission adds to the offer.
- Aluminum parts
- Alloy rims, aluminum hoods and radiators are worth more than plain steel.
- Missing pieces
- If parts have been pulled or sold off, we price what's left, and it still has value.
- Sedan, coupe or hatchback
- from $300
- SUV or minivan
- from $500
- Pickup truck
- from $500
- Running used car
- up to $10,000
Prices depend on current scrap metal rates and can change from month to month.
How to get the most for your car
- Don't pull the converter or battery yourself; the car is worth more complete.
- Mention aftermarket rims or a recent battery when you call.
- Tell us if it's a pickup, van or SUV, since the minimums are higher.
How scrap car removal in Oshawa works
Three steps, start to finish.
-
Step 1: Get your scrap price
Give us the year, make and model and tell us what's wrong with it. Rust, missing parts and a dead engine are all fine. We'll give you a firm scrap price in about 3 minutes, by phone at (289) 349-2006 or through the online form.
-
Step 2: Prep the car
Take out personal items, remove your licence plates and pull any 407 toll transponder off the windshield. Find the ownership (vehicle permit) and your photo ID. If the car is buried in snow or blocked in, clear what you can.
-
Step 3: The driver tows, you get paid
Our driver confirms the car, has you sign the transfer and pays you cash on the spot. The car is winched onto the truck and taken to a licensed recycler, usually within half an hour of arrival.
Before the tow truck arrives in Oshawa
A few minutes of prep makes pickup quick. Our full guide to preparing your car for pickup has more detail.
- Plates off Licence plates belong to you, not the car, so take them off and keep them or return them to ServiceOntario.
- Transponder out If you drive the 407, remove the transponder so nobody else's trips end up on your account.
- Personal items Check the glovebox, trunk, door pockets, under the seats and the spare-tire well.
- Paperwork Have the ownership and a government photo ID ready to show the driver.
- Keys Leave any keys you have with the paperwork, though no keys is fine too.
- Access Move other vehicles, bins or snowbanks so the truck can reach the car.
- Fluids Don't drain the gas or oil; the recycler does that safely with the right equipment.
What happens to a scrapped car after it leaves Oshawa
Depollution
At the recycler, every fluid is drained and captured: engine oil, coolant, brake and transmission fluid, fuel and refrigerant. The battery is pulled, along with any old mercury light switches. This keeps those materials out of the soil and out of creeks that drain to Lake Ontario.
Parts recovery
Usable parts such as alternators, starters, doors, mirrors and wheels are removed and sold to people fixing the same model. The catalytic converter goes to a refiner for its metals. Reusing a part saves the energy it would take to make a new one.
Shredding and sorting
The stripped shell is crushed, shredded and sorted by machine. Steel, aluminum and copper are separated and sold back to mills to become new metal. Around 75–80% of a typical vehicle by weight can be recycled this way. Read more about how car recycling works.
Free pickup beats a trip to the scrapyard
You could try to get a dead car to a scrapyard yourself, but that means paying for a tow or borrowing a trailer, then waiting while they weigh it. Most people in Oshawa don't have the gear or the time.
We bring the truck to you, whether the car is parked by the lake in Lakeview or behind a barn near Raglan. You don't pay for the tow, and you're paid before it leaves. If you also have a non-running car sitting beside it, we can take both on the same visit.

Planning the tow
Scrap cars often sit in awkward places: a back garage near Ritson Road, a spot beside a shed in Eastdale, or a field off Simcoe Street North. Give us the address plus a short note on where the car is and how to reach it. If it's near a big landmark such as the Oshawa Centre or Lakeview Park, mention that as well. It all helps our driver plan the route from Burlington.
Just outside Oshawa? Call us. We cover Whitby, Ajax and Pickering too. (289) 349-2006

Oshawa scrap car removal FAQs
Still have a question? Call (289) 349-2006 and ask a real person.
Should I take off the catalytic converter or battery before you scrap the car?
No. Both are counted in your scrap price, so taking them off just lowers the offer. Leave the car as it is and let the licensed recycler handle those parts safely.
Do I need to drain the gas and oil first?
No. Leave the fluids in. The recycler drains everything with proper equipment. Draining a car at home risks spills into Oshawa storm drains, which is exactly what proper recycling is meant to prevent.
Can I keep the tires or the stereo?
Yes, but tell us when you call. Taking good tires, rims or electronics lowers the scrap price a little. If you swap the wheels, leave old ones on so the car can still roll onto the truck. We'll tell you how each change affects your offer.
What do I do with the ownership when the car is scrapped?
You fill in the transfer section on the vehicle portion of the ownership and hand it to our driver. Keep the plate portion along with your plates. The driver will show you where to sign, so you don't have to figure it out alone.
Will you remove a scrap car that's been sitting for years?
Yes. Cars that have sat in an Oshawa garage or yard for years, with flat tires, seized brakes or mouse nests, are no problem. Tell us how long it's been parked and what's around it, and we'll bring the right gear.
Is there a fee to scrap a car in Oshawa?
No. We don't charge for towing, paperwork or recycling. You get paid for the car, not the other way around. Getting a dead car to a scrapyard on your own usually costs a tow bill or a long afternoon.
How long does scrap car removal take once the truck arrives?
Usually 20 to 30 minutes. The driver checks the car, you sign and get paid, and then it's loaded. A car in a tight spot, like a back garage on an older street in O'Neill, can take a little longer.
Do you scrap old pickups and work vans too?
Yes. Pickups, cargo vans and big SUVs are some of the best-paying scrap vehicles because of their weight, and the minimum for them is $500. Rusted boxes, bent frames and dead diesels are all fine. See our page on selling trucks, vans and SUVs.
